- Over Black stars victory
The entire Cape Coast metropolis on Sunday was thrown into a state of frenzy when senior national team, the Black stars, defeated the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia to qualify for the semi- finals of the on-going African Cup of Nations in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea.
Residents came out in their numbers on the streets to jubilate the Black stars qualification amid singing of “jama” songs and dancing.
Many of the jubilant residents danced to loud brass band music while displaying beautiful fireworks as if the nation has already won the tournament.
The jubilation started immediately the captain of the national team, John Mensah, scored in the tenth minute to give Ghana the lead.
But the town went dead when the Tunisian equalized just on the stroke of the first interval. The fans had to wait in the first half of extra for Andre Dede Ayew put Ghana in the lead once again.
The residents who had already prepared and made provision ahead of the match to jubilate the Black stars victory nearly had their party foiled but for the timely intervention of Dede who scored to bring their mood back to life.
They poured onto the streets immediately after the referee’s final whistle. The development created heavy vehicular and human traffic.
And strangely Cape Coast which usually goes to sleep as early as nine in the evening due to the lack of economic activities in the area was still awake , vibrant and jubilating as late as 12:00 a.m., with kids joining in the fray and dancing to brass band music while taxi drivers also joined the frenzy while honking their horns.
Meanwhile, Today has gathered that there will even be a bigger jubilation when the Black stars beat Zambia in their next encounter on Wednesday.
