Women urged to go into shea butter farming

The women’s fellowship of the Assemblies of God Church in the Upper East Region have been encouraged to venture into shea butter production as well as guinea fowl rearing as a means of earning income to support their families.

This encouragement was given by the National Director of the Women’s Fellowship of the church, Reverend Mrs. Dorcas Dapaah, at the beginning of their annual regional retreat at the Bolgatanga Technical Institute recently.

According to her, women in the church were supposed to be people who add value to their homes and the only way to do that was contributing to the up-keep of the family by venturing into income-generating activities.

Rev. Mrs. Dapaah stressed the need for the women to educate their children, especially the girls, up to the tertiary level in order that they aspire to positions of responsibility in the country.

She advised parents to avoid over burdening their children with work at the expense of their books since this could work against the education of their children.

The Regional Director of the fellowship, Gifty Saando, in an interview with Radio A1 news after the opening ceremony disclosed that the fellowship is involved in various vocations such as batik tie and dye and beads making, but disclosed that their main hurdle was the unavailability of funds.

She therefore used the medium to appeal to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support them with funding to carry out their planned activities of empowering women in the Upper East and West Regions.

The annual retreat of the fellowship is a four-day event, which was on the theme, “Seeking the double portion of the Holy Spirit for kingdom service.”
