ECOMI interacts with journalists

Effective Counseling Ministry International (ECOMI), a non-governmental organisation based in Accra, which offers free counseling and guidance to people, last week met media practitioners to brief them on activities of the organization.

The interaction was also aimed at briefing journalists, Ghanaians and the world on ECOMI strategic action plans for the year 2010-2015.

Addressing participants at the event, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of ECOMI, Rev. Veronica A. Nuokpe, disclosed that the organization was established as non-profit organization to offer free counseling and see to the needs of the disadvantaged in society.

“The organization was established and duly incorporated as a non-profit charity organization in the Greater Accra metropolis to help the disadvantaged, abused and traumatized persons through psycho-social counseling services,” she stated.

The CEO of ECOMI observed that the social change and increase in Ghana’s population have had a devastating effect on Ghanaians and the society.

This, she noted, has brought about many societal problems.

To this end, she stressed that her outfit seeks to assist the distressed and traumatized through their outreach and in-house psycho-social counseling programmes to enable such people contribute meaningfully towards the growth and development of the country.

“It is an undeniable fact that both psychological and emotional problems are some of the major factors that contribute to a low national productivity, ECOMI with its action plan wish to create an awareness of psycho-social counseling services as a vital tool for development in our society,” stressed the ECOMI CEO.

Touching on achievements, Rev. Nuokpe disclosed that the organization has effectively counseled over 200 people freely, including persons with the HIV/AIDS diseases.

She outlined various action plans to be undertaken this year.

These, she said, included the provision of shelter for counseling purposes, providing homes to support the neglected aged and abandoned children in society.

“From this year to 2015, ECOMI has plans to provide shelter for counseling purpose and rehabilitation of disadvantaged and traumatized persons to cope with deprivation, rape, domestic violence and abuse of all kinds. We would also like to establish an orphanage home to support the aged, neglected and abandoned children,” indicated Rev. Nuokpe.

She further said her organization has advanced plans to promote good mental health, boost productivity and national progress.

“We as members of this organization believe that all these projects will promote good mental health, boost productivity and national progress. We therefore appeal to groups, corporate bodies, the media, the churches and the general public to notice our efforts and to support this important project,” Rev. Nuokpe passionately appealed.
