PROCA to educate journalists

Progressive Road Contractors Association (PROCA) a union which seeks to give a major facelift to road infrastructure has disclosed that it has plans to sensitise and educate journalists in the construction industry.

The 2nd Vice-President of PROCA, Mr. Frank Lartey, revealed that the association which has been in existence for about 4 years with over 1,300 members nationwide would seek to keep the press abreast of developments on the road sector through the workshop.

PROCA made this known in an exclusive interview with Today during an enclosed executive meeting held in Accra last week.

Mr. Lartey lamented that many journalists lack effective information when it comes to issues regarding the sector hence the need to keep them informed to avoid misinformation of the reading and listening public.

“Against this background, PROCA will soon hold a one-day education seminar to sensitise journalists on what is happening in the sector so that when they write any story on the sector they would be on top of the issues,” Mr. Lartey indicated.

He said for so many years now, the constructing industry is being bombarded with a whole lots of issues concerning the bad conditions of roads in the country and this he said is challenging the industry’s growth.

According to Mr. Lartey the aim of the association is to address all concerns and finding solid solutions to these challenges faced by others in the sector.

He continued that PROCA also seeks to harmonize the growth of the industry by bringing together all agents such as engineers, constructors and designers to improve upon the planning, ideas, and the effectiveness of the constructing industry.

Mr. Lartey however stated that amidst challenges faced by the association, it has been able to chalk a number of achievements which includes; the government paying heed to their request to pay Ghanaians constructors very well.

“Again, the association has been able to arrange with other manufacturing industries to supply the sector with the various machineries and implement that will be needed by the sector to work with ease.”

He further disclosed that the association in collaboration with the Ministry of Road and Highways had seen to it that tax stability in the construction industry is enhanced as well as motivation of the various companies in the sector.

The National Organizer of PROCA, Lami Kuka, reiterated that the association will always seek to bring unity into the construction sector.

She however urged the public and journalists to make it a point to attend the education seminar which will be announced in due course.
