After taken his adopted party and President John Evans Atta Mills to the cleaners for under performance, reports emanating from the seat of government, Castle, indicate that the third son of Ghana’s first president, Sekou Nkrumah, could be relieved of his post as head of National Youth Council.
Today’s findings were corroborated by Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, Presidential Staffer at the presidency, when the latter during a radio program in Accra last Tuesday, bluntly told Sekou that his inclusion in the Mills led-government has become a pain in the neck of the NDC hierarchy.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, who could not hide his frustrations on Sekou’s comments about President Mills, dared him to tell Ghanaians one major policy he has been able to initiate since assuming office two years ago, though, he admits Sekou has every right to make his views known.
“I am extremely furious about Sekou’s assertion about President Mills. And if he thinks that this government has not been able to fulfill its “Better Ghana Agenda” promises then I think it would also be fair if Sekou tells us the policies he has been able to initiate or implemented as head of the National Youth Council.
…As we all strife for the progress of the government, it is also fair that we all unfold our sleeves and do well to make the government popular so Sekou must come again”, he categorically stated.
According to him, suspicious characters like Sekou should not be given fertile grounds to pour out what he described as “unnecessary invectives” on President Mills, implying that the Sekou should not be allowed to stay on as a member of the government.
In the opinion of Nii Lantey, the NDC government is bent on removing all bottlenecks bedeviling the economy to make life bearable for the “ordinary Ghanaians.”
Continuing, he again challenged Sekou to mention how many jobs the NDC government has been able to create so far since assuming office 18 months if he (Sekou) is on top of his job, stressing that “he who comes with equity must also come with clean hands.
He averred that not a day passes without Sekou’s deputies in the office not coming to the Castle with complaints about his conduct, advising that “Sekou must clean his house first before attacking anybody.”
Sekou, who was on the show, could also not hide his displeasure about the utterances of Nii Lantey as he said he was prepared to give away his post if it will be in the interest of the NDC.
“I must state that I am really surprised about what the gentleman (Nii Lantey) is saying, the party has come of age to accept all dissenting views. But, anyway if my stay as the head of the national youth council could cause problems to the NDC then I guess I would have to leave and still do something to help the party,” he stated.
It would be recalled that the latter in an interview with Africawatch magazine criticized the NDC for failing to fulfill its campaign promises and that many Ghanaians have lost hope in the NDC.
In the said interview, Sekou was also reported to have said that former President Rawlings was a better leader compared to ex-President Kufuor and President Mills.
