5 teenagers remanded

handcuffA Kumasi circuit court has remanded five teenagers into police custody for wrongfully possessing Indian hemp and assaulting a man.

The five were Kofi Gideon 17years, Kwadwo Owusu 18years, Richard Boateng Archin 18years, Kwasi Appiah 15 and Robert Asare 19years.

The suspects were among 10 teenagers who attacked and assaulted a security guard at the Plaza Hotel at Dichemso in Kumasi for blowing the lid off their dubious ways.

They pleaded guilty to the charge of drug trafficking and were convicted on their own plea.

A prosecutor from the Attorney General’s Department Mr Aryie told the court that the suspects pretended to be selling mobile phones but were gave wrapped soap to their innocent victims in exchange for their money.

He said the complainant who saw the bad deeds of the teenagers informed some of the innocent victims thereby incurring their wrath.

On the 28th February, 2010, he noted, a group of teenagers who had been engaging in the corruptible act attacked Acheampong, the complainant who was on duty at the plaza hotel around 9 pm.

“As they pounced on him and started beaten him up, the complainant screamed for help and one of the boys then stabbed him in the rib with sharp a knife,” he stressed.

The prosecutor continued that the complainant was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital since he was bleeding profusely.

A report was therefore made to the police leading to their arrest and prosecution.

They are to reappear before the court on 13th of July, 2010.
