To ensure that subscribers catch up with the latest in the financial world, Ghana’s number one telecommunications service provider, MTN hit the central region on Tuesday June 29th with its mobile money train to educate subscribers to enjoy the convenience of making financial transactions on their mobile phones.
The service which seeks to satisfy the changing trend of business provides subscribers the convenience of opening and operating an electronic wallet and a full bank account from their phone.
Speaking at the official launch of the mobile service in Cape Coast, the senior regional manager of mobile money implementation, Mr Samuel Appiah, stated that MTN recognised how close a person is to his or her mobile phone hence the initiative to make daily payments smoother and efficient.
Mr Appiah said MTN has collaborated with nine banks to develop the mobile money service and assured that the service ensures that all transactions take place with utmost security.
The senior regional manager stated that the era where monies were sent through commercial drivers and strangers were over, adding that the MTN mobile money ensures that monies reached the required destinations safely.
According to him, in fulfilment of their goal to improve the lives of their subscribers, MTN initiated the service to enable subscribers enjoy the benefits of conveniences such as sending money in a hassle free manner, paying utility bills without having to travel or stand in queues and recharging prepaid cards at one’s own convenience.
The Mobile Money Manager at MTN, Mr Peter Bimpeh said the service which was launched 11 months ago in Accra has already been launched in Kumasi, Sunyani, Bolgatanga and Tamale.
He said the train is expected to go round the other regions of the southern sector to ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to register for the service.
In a remark, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins expressed the hope that the service will transform lives and complement his outfit’s effort at stimulating economic growth in the metropolis.
Mr Egyir Aikins disclosed that the assembly will soon establish a desk for local service providers including MTN to contribute their quota towards the creation of employment for people in the area to reduce poverty.
He charged MTN to intensify education of the mobile service and extend the service to the rural areas as well as establish enough mobile money merchants at vantage points to be able to catch the attention of the general public for its smooth implementation.
Mr Aikins advised MTN and other companies to seek authorisation from the assembly before erecting masts and warned that his outfit will not hesitate to use the assembly’s laws to punish perpetrators and land encroachers.
Madam Rita Tetteh, the lady who starred in the MTN mobile money advert entreated the general public to register and spread the good news about the success of the service.
