Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a flag bearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was last Friday given a tumultuous welcome when he visited the Odododioodioo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region to interact with delegates and canvass for their votes in the run-up to the August 7 NPP presidential primaries.

The venue for the programme, Palladium Hall in Accra, was almost full to capacity as NPP delegates in that constituency thronged the place in their numbers, and listened with keen interest to the message of Prof Frimpong-Boateng.

At the end of the two-hour meeting, many of the delegates who spoke to Today expressed confidence in Frimpong-Boateng, and urged their colleague delegates to rally behind him.

And as Prof Frimpong-Boateng sold his message of “Hope for the Future” the delegates intermittently applauded, an indication, many of them said, was to show that they will vote for him come August 7.

The renowned heart surgeon advised the delegates to vote for a candidate who can attract votes of floating voters into the fold of the NPP to enable the party wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012.

“It is important for us to elect someone who can be trusted by Ghanaians irrespective of the person’s political or social standing.

… I am not saying I am a saint, but at this crucial moment we need an experienced person and someone with the track record to hold the flag of this our great party high. And among the five candidates, I (Frimpong-Boateng) believe I am more than qualified to lead the NPP to victory in 2012.

According to him, he is the only candidate who can bring all the five aspirants on board to work as one “family that will chart a common course after the election” – to win power from the NDC.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng stressed that as a disciplinarian, he will fight corruption to the tooth as he did in every office he occupied.
