Operators of internet cafés in Accra and other parts of the country, who are hooked in to the internet services of Vodafone Ghana Limited, are appalled at the poor services rendered by the communication company.
The furious operators, who visited the office of Today last Friday, June 18, 2010, described Vodafone services as nothing but a ‘waste’ and nothing different from what existed during the days of the defunct Ghana Telecom.
According to them, there is absolutely nothing different from the current Vodafone from the hardships they went through under Ghana Telecom.
The operators contended that for close to about two weeks now the internet services provided by Vodafone has been very woeful and disappointing.
They noted that hardly is the internet link able to stay on for a day and even when it does it is very slow like a tortoise.
More importantly, what is irking the operators is despite several concerns raised by them; management of Vodafone has and is doing nothing about the situation.
This development, the café operators told Today, has driven away most of their clients to other internet cafés which are not hooked in on Vodafone internet services.
The café operators could not fathom why up till now management of Vodafone has not come out to explain what really the problem is, and rather has resorted to keeping them in the dark.
“…Anytime we report a problem of this nature the only thing some of their bossy officials tell us is that they are aware and that they will rectify it. We leave their offices and come back to our cafés and still continue to experience the same problem”, Master Edward Mensah, a café operator at Lapaz in Accra, told this paper.
Consequently, the café operators are threatening to switch to other internet service providers whom they believe and trust can deliver qualitative services.
“I and an owner of a café at Circle are thinking of switching from Vodafone to a more efficient internet service provider”, Madam Catherine Harrison, a Café’ owner at Circle in Accra intimated.
Today gathered that the problem was equally affecting businesses and Ghanaians who are using Vodafone internet services.
It was established that since the problem begun the internet office of Vodafone has always been receiving reports of their internet link going off each passing day.
What is more, the paper learned that subscribers of Vodafone network are also experiencing poor services from the company, which include network problems in the recharge of cards, and checking balance of credits and among others.
“I bought G H¢10 of Vodafone scratch card to recharge and later called a business partner for an urgent business transaction only to be given a jolt with a feedback that ‘sorry your scratch card cannot be recharged at this time please try again later.’
…So for me I have changed to some other network because as for Vodafone the least said about them, the better. Vodafone is nothing to write home about,” a Vodafone subscriber angrily expressed.
“They will tell you all sort of stories when you go to their office and would eventually yield no fruit. Vodafone is a disgrace to the telecom sector,” another subscriber decried.
