NPP YOUTH DECRY STATE OF NYEP

The youth wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has once again expressed their disgust at what they describe as inhuman treatment being meted out to personnel of the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) whom the NDC think were engaged because of their affiliation to the former NPP administration.

At a press conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser, Gideon Boako, noted that it was an open secret that the NDC government wanted to expel all existing employees under the NYEP.

Hon.-Mensah-Teye-EnochPointing the Bosomtwi district, Ejisu Juaben Municipality and the Kumasi Metropolis all in the Ashanti region, the regional youth organizer noted that the latest module of the program to be hit by the baton of expulsion was the community policing module.

What was more disheartening, he lamented, was the fact that these innocent youth had not been paid their allowances for over three months.

He said it was no surprise that the NDC government was treating the youth who have been engaged under the NYEP with “such disdain and unpardonable dehumanization” since the then running mate of their presidential candidate had promised during the campaign era that they would phase the NYEP out when they won power.

“We however assure our brothers and sisters who are being maltreated by the NDC government that they will be made active movers and shakers in the next NPP government to be formed in 2013.

“We will re-employ them in our next government when the obnoxious and insensitive social democrats are swept aside from power by the good people of Ghana,” he stressed.

In order to keep records of all the youth whom they think have been victimized by the NDC, the NPP youth wing has created an e-mail; nyepashanti@yahoo.com, entreating all the affected persons to register themselves there for reference.

Mr Boako said in spite of the inability of the government to pay the personnel of the NYEP at post, some unconfirmed reports reaching them indicated that some NDC activists were selling NYEP forms at GH¢250.

“Even though we know this may sound unbelievable, we call on the government to investigate and bring those people who are indulging in this wicked act to book,” he said.

The youth wing, Mr Boako noted, was not the least afraid or intimidated by the threats being emanating from elements of the NDC government, adding that it was apparent that government was using state machinery and institutions like the police service to arrest some of their members on the least flimsy excuse.
