Azorka Boys in disarray…More groups to break away

Azorka Boys, a cluster of NDC youth groups, well noted for its unwavering support for the NDC party in the Northern region, is gradually falling apart and losing its steel, Today has gathered.

This follows the decision by some of the groups within the Azorka company to break away from the union.

Although Accra-based Citi Fm reported on Wednesday evening on its Eye Witness program that one of the groups led by one Mohammed Aboagye had broken away from the association, information pieced together by Today indicates that more of the groups are threatening to go their separate ways following their concern that they have been cheated and not treated fairly by the founder and chairman of the Azorka Boys, Sofoh Azorka.

On the Citi Fm’s programme, Mohammed Aboagye the leader of the breakaway group, though confirmed that his group has gone its separate ways was cagey in disclosing the reasons why they took that decision.

“For unity and party cohesion I would not want to disclose to you why our group broke away from the Azorka Boys, but I can tell you that a lot of things have happened which were not auguring well for the cause of the Azorka Boys,” Mohammed Aboagye told the host of Citi Fm Eye Witness programe.

Underground moves by the paper have revealed that many of the youth groups within the Azorka family are disenchanted with the founder who they alleged pocketed a lump sum of undisclosed amount of money from the NDC headquarters after he had given a small percentage of it to a few of the members.

A highly placed source close to the Azorka Boys whispered to this reporter that the founder was given a whooping amount GH¢1.5 billion and other items to share amongst themselves.

The source said Sofoh Azorka on his own volition gave a small percentage of the money to a few groups and pocketed the rest, to the chagrin of the remaining groups.

This allegation was, however, vehemently refuted by Sofoh Azorka on the same platform on Citi Fm who dared Mohammed Aboagye and his boys to prove where and when [he Azorka] was given the money and the items.

Azorka who was emotionally charged said: They [Mohammed and his boys] should come out and prove where and when they saw me given the GH¢1.5billion.

According to Sofoh Azorka, he has single handedly shouldered the responsibility of resourcing and managing the Azorka Boys.

“I have been using my own money to manage and organise the Azorka Boys, and this I never reneged when the party was even in opposition.

…And I can say that I have not received any financial support whatsoever not even from the national headquarters of the NDC,” Sofoh Azorka bluntly asserted.

Absolutely vexed by the comments of Mohammed Aboagye, the chairman of Azorka Boys gave his phone to his Spokesperson, Mohammed Ayuba, to continue with the interview.

Mohammed Ayuba on his part severely lashed out at Aboagye and his members describing them as a small minority in the Azorka Boys who do not matter at all.

He also challenged the Aboagye group to come out and prove where and when they saw his boss being given the alleged GH¢1.5 billion.

Furthermore, the paper learnt that many of the youth groups could not understand why Sofoh Azorka has not ceded his position as chairman of Azorka Boys to a member of the union now that he has been appointed as the vice president of the Northern regional branch of the NDC.
