Hope Preparatory School
The contribution of private individuals to education in this country cannot be glossed over. Through the establishment of private educational institutions, government has been assisted a great deal in the provision of quality and affordable education to Ghanaian citizens.
One such private school which offers not only qualitative but affordable education to Ghanaians in the Anyinam township in the Eastern region is Hope Preparatory School.
Hope Preparatory was established in September 2005 with just seventeen pupils and three teachers. Currently, the school can boast of a student population of 650 and 14 teachers.
In an interview with School Profile Today, the Proprietor, Mr Emmanuel Oduro Ofosu, a retired headteacher of Roman Catholic School in Anyinam, disclosed that right after his retirement he had a vision to put up a school.
According to Mr Oduro, the reason underlying his vision stemmed from the fact that there was no better educational set-up as of the time of his retirement hence he taught it expedient to build a school that would offer qualitative education and help lay firm foundations for children in the Anyinam town.
“Besides, I also thought that we owed it a responsibility to help educate our children so that when we are gone they can take care of us and manage the country efficiently,” Mr Oduro noted.
As a professional teacher, Mr Oduro intimated that it was also his interest to seek the welfare of teachers and therefore preferred to have his own school where he will improve the lot of teachers.
“One secret of my school is that I encourage my pupils and students to speak English language at all times, and stress that any pupil or student caught speaking vernacular should be punished,” the proprietor revealed.
According to him, this strategy of his has helped tremendously students and pupils of Hope Preparatory to speak good and fluent English.
The proprietor mentioned that Hope Preparatory is recognised as one of the best in the community.
He went on to add that his school currently has facilities such as a computer lab to equip students with Information Communication Technology (ICT), a library, a school canteen, a staff common room and a school bus which conveys students to the school.
Mr Oduro appealed to government, philanthropists and private organisations to help him finish with the renovation works of his school.
