Shame unto Betty Mould, NDC

When politicians are seeking power, they implore both decent and rough tactics to make the incumbent government unpopular so as to win the sympathy of the electorate, when in real sense they seek to enrich themselves when given the leadership mantle.

And the campaign the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) mounted to unseat the President Kufuor led-administration in the 2008 election is no exception. The NDC rubbished everything the NPP did at the time through their ‘spin doctors’ who included several bigwigs of the party some of whom are now serving as ministers.

When the former deputy Director of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Rokko Frimpong, was murdered by unknown assassins in 2007 at his residence in Accra, many at the time urged government to rigorously investigate the matter and apprehend those behind the gruesome murder.

And at the time family members were mourning their beloved one, and tributes continued to pour in from well wishers, some high profile members of the then opposition NDC,  notably Ama Benyiwa Doe, Fiifi Kwetey, Anita Desosu, Elvis Afriye Ankrah and the then flag bearer, Professor John Evans Atta Mills ran riot and labeled the unfortunate incident as ‘contract killing.’

The good old law Professor and members of his party cited other incidents that had occurred in the seven (7) year reign of Mr Kufuor as a manifestation of general insecurity and government failure to equip law enforcing agencies to maintain peace and order in the country, when in actual fact they were aware of how much resources have been injected into security agencies in the country.

The NDC, at the time peddled a lot of falsehood and engaged in what I will describe as ‘playing on the key boards of the emotions of Ghanaians.’ They created the impression as if Ghana was sitting on a time bomb which would eventually explode if nothing was done to disarm it.

After pursuing their communist inferior tactics for some time, they were left with no option than to promise the people of Ghana to apprehend the perpetuators of the crime and bring them to book when given the mandate in 2008.

Besides, the party promised to institute investigations into the killing of the former king of Dagbone, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani and the thirty (30) others in the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute in 2002, and put the culprits before court to ensure that justice is done. But after more than a year in office, family members of both Rokko Frimpong and Ya-Na are yet to hear anything positive as far as the arrest of the criminals who perpetuated these crimes are concerned.

Smarting under the pressures of fulfilling a campaign promise they effected the arrest of five (5) serving military officers of the 64 Infantry Battalion in Accra, including Sgt. Michael Arthur, Richard Somuah, Lamptey Hazel, Cpls. Charles Ankumah and Emmanuel Ausiri in November, 2009 in connection with the murder of Rokko Frimpong.

The Attorney-General, upon the arrest of the five, arraigned them before the Osu Magistrate Court as having taken instructions from unknown political authority to eliminate the latter. But the counsel for the five (5), Joe Aboagye Debrah of first Law Chambers challenged the AG at the court and branded the allegation as a pack of lies meant to wrongly incarcerate his clients.

And letting the family members of the serving military officers, some of whom I learned are the bread winners of their respective families, go through a lot of psychological trauma for more than three months, the Attorney General led by Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, sheepishly decided to enter a nolle prosequi which simply means the AG has no substantial evidence to continue with the trial. Oh! What a shame to Mrs Mould Iddrisu and her government. This woman (Betty Mould-Iddrisu) has constantly shown that she is indeed not fit to be where she finds herself now.

I will on this note seize the chance to tell the NDC government and Mrs Mould Iddrisu to peacefully and humbly inform whoever put her there that she can no longer continue with what she had been tasked to do, finito! Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu is just an excellent orator not a minister.

I also believe that it would be proper and in the good interest of government and the NDC party as a whole if government comes out to render an apology for the insults she heaped on the previous NPP government when they were in opposition for not being able to apprehend the culprits of the said crimes. An impression was created that if the NPP administration had deliberately left the crime perpetuators off the hook because they (NPP) themselves would have been implicated if they had arrested the perpetrators.

Oh! NDC you thought governance is about peddling falsehood and distorting real facts and as the old adage goes ‘what goes round comes round.’ The reality has hit you in the face, now the ball has managed its way to your court you either kick it or leave it. Ghanaians live to see, once again shame unto Auntie Betty and her NDC government.
