Fraud at Franko Trading…GM in police grips

The General Manager of Franko Trading Enterprise, Mr. Freeman Ametepey, is in police grips for allegedly stealing GH¢9,000 belonging to his employers.

Mr Ametepey, the paper learned, was arrested by the Accra Central police, following the allegation that he had defrauded his employers.

Deep throat sources at the company disclosed that  Mr Ametepey who was appointed last year  with an oversight responsibility to monitor activities of other branches spread across the nation connived with  female employee of the company, whose name Today got only as Yvonne, a manager at the Osu branch, to steal GH¢9,000 belonging to the company.

The fraud was detected during an internal audit conducted by the company recently.

The company authorities expressed concern at the manner some branch managers of the company had been involved in rampant fraudulent activities.

In an interview with Inspector Nana Oppong of the Accra Regional Criminal Investigation Department (C.I.D), he confirmed the story and revealed that the suspect will be arraigned before court for due process in two weeks time.

The authorities revealed that the company has recorded similar fraudulent cases involving an ex-branch manager at Adum Pampaso in Kumasi, Mr. Sylvester Joyellery, who was also convicted by a Kumasi circuit court in Kumasi, was sentenced to 36 months jail term with hard labour.

According to them, the accused however managed to quash the sentence through an appealed to a higher court which overturned the lower court’s earlier judgment.

The authorities continued that after serving barely three weeks of the intended thirty six months he managed to secure a bail through an appeal to a higher court which according to them was obtained by the accused under bizarre circumstances.

They further disclosed that the earlier judgment gave directives that the accused should refund the stolen amount of GH¢8,500.00 after serving the jail term but has reneged on the directive seven months after securing his freedom.

The company’s sources however confided in Today that frantic moves are being made in a bid to compel one Bashiru Gambo of plot number 114 blocks D-A, a surety at Kumasi High Court, who effected the release of the accused to produce him to refund the said amount involved.
