The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) in partnership with the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) has officially launched the course outline and modules for the medium and long term procurement training.
According to Mr A. B. Adjei, the chief executive officer (CEO) for PPA, the curricula for medium and long term procurement training programmes in Ghana to be sway out by the universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions as applicable.
With this he said the PPA is working in close collaboration with the public services commission to supply materials and supervision class of the ministry of finance and economic planning to enable it attract the public sector.
“Having developed the initial documents, we work hand in hand with the professionals and academia in procurement in November 2009 to discuss the document thoroughly and is comprehensive and acceptable to all the stakeholders” he noted.
He explained that the millennium challenge corporation paid a courtesy to discuss the appropriate procurement rules and regulations for the implementation of the compact capacity and ideas on how effective skill development in procurement could improve.
To Mr Adjei, processes and challenges had to deal with to get this far and authorities are dealing with challenges with regards to the engagement of a project coordinator to facilitate the process.
“The results of the MCC four years ago plan and MiDA’s eventual programme is what we are all witnessing today is comprehensive and acceptable” said Mr Adjei.
He said his will also afford the opportunity for over 8,000 polytechnic purchasing and supply graduates who are desirous to further their education in procurement.
“I am sure that the achievement this milestone will get a number of students from this countries coming to study our procurement system” he bluntly stated.
Adding that over the years, Ghana has led the way in the procurement reforms, particularly in Africa and it is always heartwarming to the state.
Apart from the high score attained by Ghana in World Bank reviews of our system, several commonwealth countries including Nigeria, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Liberia, Tanzania etc have visited Ghana to study our procurement system.
