Charles Otoo heads 1st National

Mr. Charles J. Otoo is the new General Manager of 1st National Savings and Loan (FNSL). After a diligent search which resulted in the application for the position by a number of top Bankers, some from leading local and foreign Banks, Mr. Otoo emerged tops.

With an impeccable record in the financial market and an excellent delivery at the interview, the Board of Directors of FNSL had little difficulty in appointing Mr. Charles J. Otoo as the helmsman of the company.

His wealth of experience in banking spans over 25 years. That is very evident in his association and membership of some of the world’s acclaimed Banking Institutions like the Charted Institute of Bankers (Ghana, UK) and the Opportunity International Network, (OIN), USA.

A multi-tasked, self-motivated and proactive player, Mr Otoo comes into his new job with excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, having worked in many of Banks in Ghana.

Until his new appointment at FNSL this year, Mr Otoo had since July 2007, worked at HFC Bank Limited as the General Manager – Banking Operations. From June 2006 – July 2007, he headed the Domestic Banking Operations at the HFC Bank.

From January 2005 to May 2006, Mr Otoo worked at SG-SSB Limited, where he was the head of Risk Management Department of the Bank.

For 17 years, 1992-2009, he worked with Merchant Bank (Ghana) Limited in various capacities. From July 1999-2004, he was the Regional Manager, Ashanti Region, and from January 1996 to June 1999, the Head of Corporate Banking.

Mr. Otoo occupied various positions from January 1996 to June 1999 whilst at Merchant Bank Ghana Limited. He headed the Corporate Business Development and the Training Department. He was also the Account Relationship Manager.

From 1982-1989, Mr Otoo worked at Barclays Bank Ghana Limited as Inspector at the Bank’s headquarters in Accra. Around this same period, he worked as a lecturer at the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), and also a chief examiner of International Finance.

As a great team player, innovative and a self-starter, Mr Otoo is expected to bring his wide background knowledge in banking principles and structure to help grow FNSL which is fast gaining grounds in the Ghanaian economy as the people’s bank.

Mr Otoo graduated from the Paris Graduate School of Management, UK, with an MBA (STRATEGIC MGT) in June 2006. He also has Chartered Institute of Bankers, ACIB certificate (London) examination after passing his Ordinary and Advanced Levels in Adisadel College in Cape Coast.
