Assemblyman offers free NHIS to electorate

The presiding member of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly and Assemblyman of Antem-Esikafoambantsem in Cape Coast, Nana Awuku, during the Christmas festivities organised a free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration for electorates in his area to show his appreciation to them for the support they have given to him.

The gesture, according to Nana Awuku, was to enable his electorates many of whom have not registered to register with the scheme, and have to have access to free quality medical care.

He added that the move was also to show his appreciation to them for voting for him on two consecutive occasions as the Assemblymember for the area.

He further explained that his gesture was necessitated by the fact that most people in his electoral area were deprived and could not afford the registration fee of the scheme adding that that pushed him to organize the free registration exercise for them as their Christmas package.

“Over the years, they have shown their support for me by voting for me on two occasions to be their representative in the assembly. I believe this gesture will go a long way to show my appreciation to them for the support they’ve given me over the years,” he said.

Nana Awuku who has been Assemblyman for seven years noted that with the support of his electorates he has been able to construct a 20-seater KVIP for his people as well as been able to construct a six unit classroom block for them.

He added that major drains have been constructed during his tenure which has improved the drainage system in area and has been able to fix streets lights which has improved security in the area.

The exercise will be able to register about 500 people with the scheme.
