Wesley Adzove, a 38-year-old mason, is reported to have assaulted a 14-year-old class five (5) pupil [name withheld for security reasons] of Kpone Primary School, for allegedly stealing a mobile phone which belonged to a neighbour.
Briefing the Tema A circuit court presided over by Justice Anamda Aikins, the prosecutor Chief Inspector Yao Aheto, said the victim lives with the accused at Kpone, a town near Tema, and on the 5th of December 2009, the victim allegedly stole a mobile phone from a resident in the area.
After her admission, the accused allegedly got angry and hit the face of the victim with a rubber rope which he used to tie her up, striped her naked and inserted pepper into her vagina and then locked her in a room.
Inspector Aheto indicated that the victim suffered a two-hour ordeal at the hands of Mr. Adzove after which he sacked her from his room. As a result of Mr. Adzove’s cruelty, the victim and some relatives quickly rushed to the police to lodge a formal complaint, which led to the arrest of Wesley Adzove last Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Aheto told the judge that not even when the victim had admitted and disclosed to Mr. Adzove that she indeed stole the mobile to use the money to facilitate her travelling to her mother who was in Togo could spare her the wrath of the accused person.
The prosecutor told the court that after disappearing in the vicinity after people had gotten wind of her thievery, the victim resurfaced on December 8, 2009. The prosecutor explained that this was after efforts by the police to find her had yielded no results.
Chief Inspector Aheto continued that it was during her return that Mr. Adzove confronted the 14-year-old victim and harshly maltreated her.
Inspector Aheto further told the court that the victim also suffered a lot of scorn from residents in the area, as she was widely known for indulging in such acts.
But, when she later came back to the area she admitted stealing the mobile phone and selling it for a token amount of GH¢30 when quizzed for the second time by the police.
The court after hearing the case last Thursday adjourned it to the 15th of December 2009.
