The Atwima Nwabiagya District in Ashanti Region has finally accepted the president’s nominee for the position of a District Chief Executive (DCE) in the person of Nana Asare Bediako.

With much enthusiasm the Assembly on Wednesday voted a hundred per cent in the presence of the electoral officers for the new DCE who unlike the others showed no sign of nervousness.
Nana Asare Bediako is the second person nominated by president Prof Mills for that position in the district. It would be recalled that the assembly members voted against Mr. Christopher Chokhere who contested for the parliamentary slot on the ruling NDC’s ticket in the 2008 elections when he was nominated earlier this year.
Mr. Chokhere was however at the assembly last Wednesday to render support to his friend and party man during the voting process. Other dignitaries present on that day were the Toasehene and Ashanti Regional Council of State representative Nana Asiamah Poku Afrifa, under whose traditional Authority the District falls, and the Ashanti Regional Minister Kofi Opoku Manu.
Even though there were some controversies surrounding the nomination of Mr. Asare Bediako, the assembly grounds was quite normal with pockets of party activists eagerly awaiting the results from the voting process.
Mr. Asare Bediako in his victory statement to pressmen expressed gratitude to the president for entrusting the district into his care, and to all the party’s district executives and members who supported him through.
He also thanked the assembly members for believing in his capabilities and accepting him to be the political head of the district.
“Once they have voted for me I know I am going to enjoy their full support and cooperation to make my work easy and smooth”, he optimized.
Earlier, the Toasehene Nana (Capt. Rtd) Asiamah Poku Afrifa appealed to the assembly members to accept the nomination of the president as the absence of a DCE was affecting the socio-economic development of the district.
