Some irate students of Huni-Valley Senoir High School in the Prestea–Huni Valley district of the Western Region on Monday, 1st December, 2009, beat up Mr Patrick Carl Asamoah, a Social Studies Master of the school.
Mohammed Abubakar, a form three (3) student, who has carved a notorious name for himself on campus, led a group of mainly form 3 students in the abuse, resulting in the teacher’s admission to the Huni-Valley Clinic with serious injuries.
Grapevine sources at the school divulged that on Mr. Abubakar led his colleagues to beat Master Asamoah for trying to ensure that order at the boys’ dormitory between the hours of 10:30–11:30 that night.
“The concerned Social Studies teacher was trying to maintain discipline on campus and ended up in the hospital after he had been beaten mercilessly,” the source added, stressing that the behaviour of the male form 3 students in recent times was very disquieting.
“They warned that henceforth, any teacher who dares disturb their peace at the dormitory again will smell a big pepper,” said a teacher, who pleaded for anonymity.
“Mr Carl Asamoah thought it was prudent to put the male students right at their dormitory after he had received complaints from the security man at the gate that the boys were making uncontrollable noises in the dormitory,” the source continued.
The paper gathered that it was in this vein that the teacher went to the dormitory with a security torch-light and security club, so that the students would run to their various cubicles on seeing him.
“When he got closer to the guys, they realized that it was no other person than Mr Asamoah. The teacher told them that the school was in its revision week so if they will not learn, they should not disturb the peace of other serious students who were learning and those who were asleep,” the anonymous teacher recounted.
Mr Asamoah then told them that they had broken the rules and regulations of the school, so they had to take some lashes and the students at that point disobeyed him and refused to take any punishment.
As a result, Mr Asamoah got angry and fetched himself a belt from one of the students since he had no cane with him and used the belt on the students.
Mr. Abubakar and one Francis Kwame Nkrumah got irritated and pounced on Mr Asamoah as if he was a “minced meat” and handed him severe beatings, according to our source.
Although our source did not disclose this, a further investigation by the paper revealed that the Headmaster, Mr Kojo-Tandoh, who has been officially informed about the incident, was yet to take action on the matter.
However, some of the teachers who are enraged over the issue have charged the Headmaster to severely punish the offending students who perpetuated the crime, in order to serve as deterrent to other students who have such ill-intentions of committing similar acts.
The case is currently under investigations at the Huni-Valley Police Station.
