One educational institution in Ghana’s capital city, Accra, which apart from providing sound education also inculcates good morals in children, is S.D.A Preparatory and Junior High School (JHS).
The school is located at Odorkor behind the community market and has well furnished classroom blocks to accommodate pupils from nursery to the JHS level.
The school was founded by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1999 with the aim of giving training to children to play meaningful roles in the country. It started with 12 pupils, one teacher and a headmaster in the premises of the church.
From that smooth take off, S.D.A Preparatory JHS has grown with a pupil and student population of 700. It has a very hardworking headmistress who is able assisted by 41 qualified teachers. Among its facilities include 5 classroom blocks, a library facility and a computer laboratory to encourage both pupils and students of the school upgrade their skills and knowledge in information communication technology.
Excellent education is one of the hallmarks of the school and which also gives assurance to parents that ones they enroll their kids there their children will have the best of education irrespective of their religious background. Candidates of S.D.A. have over the past years hade very good excellent results.
This hallmark arisen out of the special attention authorities of the school give to both pupils and students. What is more, teachers of S.D.A Preparatory JHS are motivated to give off their best in the classrooms.
According to the Headmistress, Mrs Philomena Tsaako Anim, the school’s aim is not to make money, but to work tirelessly to ensure that its students succeed in life.
“…the school’s board is very supportive with the able leadership of Dr William Y.K Brown,” added Mrs Tsaako Anim.
Mrs Tsaako Anim disclosed that in the next four years the school will be having a Senior High School facility. Talking about branches, she said “every where you find an S.D.A Church, there is a school attached and some of the branches already have Senior High School and tertiary institutions.”
S.D.A schools, she said also take part in church and sporting activities and also participate in private school sporting competitions.
