Boy, 19, jailed for defilement

A 19-year-old boy, Armah Tetteh, a resident of Tema New Town, has been sentenced to three years with hard labour by the Ashaiman Circuit Court, presided over by his Lordship Azumah, for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl at Tema.

After examination and cross-examination, Armah Tetteh was found guilty of the charge leveled against him.

According to reports, the victim (name withheld) attended a funeral at Ashaiman on the 13th September this year with her mother and some family friends who live at Dansoman in Accra.

Narrating the incident to the court, the mother of the victim, (name withheld) indicated that around 6 p.m. on that fateful day, the victim told her that she wanted to wash her hands at a nearby stand pipe at the funeral grounds.

She said that when Armah Tetteh saw her daughter, he called her, and carried her on his back to the compound of an Anglican school at Awudum, in the same vicinity. She stated that when they arrived at the school, Armah Tetteh put the little girl on his lap and started inserting his fingers into her private part.

She narrated that the accused went on until he felt relieved and sent the girl back to the funeral grounds, by which time her family was searching for her. She noted that her daughter told her about all that the accused had done to her.

The victim’s mother lodged an official complaint at the Tema New Town Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused Armah Tetteh.

After several investigations, the police charged Armah Tetteh with sexual assault and defilement.
