‘Help in nation building’
Christians in the world have been charged to play active roles in their nation’s development as part of their Christian duties.
Reverend Bishop Elisha Osei Kofi, General Overseer of the Power Embassy Church International, made the call at the official opening of this year’s ‘Shiloh 2009’ conference in Accra.
According to him, Christians should not restrict themselves to duties in the church but also extend those services to the nation.
“We are the light of this world and therefore our light must not only shine in our churches but in the whole world for that matter our country,” noted Rev. Osei Kofi.
Bishop Osei Kofi also used the occasion to advise political parties to bury their differences and rally behind the government to ensure national development as Christians were prepared to do.
“Now that the elections are over, there is the need for all political parties to foster unity and oneness and desist from insulting each other,” Rev. Osei Kofi maintained.
He said politics of insults did not augur well for Ghana’s fledgling democracy.
Bishop Osei Kofi also appealed to the government to formulate a youth policy which would help the youth to develop their talents.
“The youth are the future leaders of this nation and everything possible must be done to help them to grow to become responsible citizens,” he stressed.
The ‘Shiloh Conference’ is an annual event organized by the church, with the aim of building the spiritual well-being of participants to enable them to face the challenges ahead.
The conference witnessed about 1,000 participants from Ghana, Germany, South Africa, United States of America and Canada.
It is a seven-day conference which is on the theme; ‘Greater Glory,’ and would be climaxed with the 11th Anniversary of the church on Sunday, October 4, 2009.
