Fuel shortage hits Central Region

Drivers in the Cape Coast Metropolis have expressed disappointment about the fuel shortage which has hit the region particularly Cape Coast for about four days now.

The drivers lamented that it was very appalling for them to go through such a hectic situation before they get fuel after all the promises made to them by the ruling NDC government to ensure the smooth flow of fuel in the country.

Cape-Coast-driversThe drivers, who expressed their disappointment to TODAY at the various filling stations in Cape Coast on Monday, said they started queuing at the station as early as 2:00a.m., with the intention of getting fuel to embark on their daily activities but had to go through strenuous effort before they get access to the fuel.

According to the drivers, their hopes were shuttered when they were informed that they would only be given one gallon each no matter the amount they wanted to buy.

Some of the drivers claimed they had travelled all the way from Twifo Praso, Dunkwa-On –Offin, Elmina, Assin Fosu and Winneba to Cape Coast to get fuel but realized that the situation in the area was even far worse than expected.

Most of them who could not control their tempers had no option but to descend heavily on the ruling government for not being able to fulfill its campaign promise of reducing fuel prices drastically and addressing all issues associating with fuel shortage.

They lamented that the situation was jeopardizing their businesses since they do not go to work early as some even do not go to work at all. This, they claimed, could contribute to the increase in unemployment in the country.

They have therefore called on government to address the issue as early as possible to reduce the frustration they were going through.

In an interview with a pump attendant at Pedu Total Filling Station at Cape Coast, Ato Kwamena Inkoom said the station had only G-Plus as at Saturday and only had petrol on Monday.

The petrol supplied to the station, according to the pump attendant, was not enough to satisfy their customers.

TODAY observed that fuel was still selling at GH¢ 5.00 at all filling stations whiles Taxi drivers and other commercial drivers had also not increased their fares.

In spite of the shortage, there has not been any frustration in relation to travelling as cars have been parked at various lorry stations for travelers to embark on their journeys.
