C/R Caterers threaten court action

Caterers of the School Feeding Programme in the Central Region have threatened to sue the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies for terminating their contracts prematurely.

The caterers, who came all the way from Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira (THLD) and Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) district and municipality respectively to voice out their grievances to the media in Cape Coast, hinted that diabolic means were being used to relieve them of their post even though their time was not due.

In an interview with some of them, they expressed disappointment with the Ghana National School Feeding Programme Secretariat’s decision of removing old caterers to allegedly replace them with National Democratic Congress – NDC members.

They blamed the ruling government of trying to find a clever way of relieving them of their posts in order to create jobs for its members with the excuse that their time was due.

They explained that they had up to December this year to renew their licenses while others have up to December next year to do so.

“We see this as a plot by the ruling government to render us jobless because we were employed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).We are all Ghanaians and should be given equal opportunities”, they angry expressed.

A caterer at Twifo Kayireku Zion Primary School in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower- Denkyira District, Madam Akosua Boatemaa, narrated that two out of seven of her colleagues who went for an interview at the Presiding Member of the district on September 8 this year have been sacked because they were told they failed the interview.

She added that the remaining five have also been served with letters to hand over since they have found replacement for them.

Akosua Boatemaa further said the Secretariat in the district on Tuesday, 15th September, 2009, served her with a letter to stop work since she has been replaced by the wife of the NDC district Propaganda Secretary, who is also an organizer of the party, Mr. Kofi Addison.

She described the scenario as dramatic saying she believed it was a plot to relieve them of their posts since they were all sympathizers of the NPP.

On behalf of the caterers in the District, Boatemaa appealed to President Mills to find a solution to the problem and save them from becoming jobless.

Meanwhile, TODAY can authoritatively report that caterers in KEEA have also expressed concern on how the Secretariat in the municipality was treating them.

They disclosed that efforts made by them to meet the MCE and discuss their concerns with her in the wake of what is happening have proved futile.

They have also threatened to take legal action against the Municipal Assembly if they failed to address the issue.
