DONEWELL INSURANCE UNDER FIRE…Over unpaid Salaries

Donewell Insurance, one of the leading insurance companies in Ghana, is battling a critical financial setback which has even led to the non-payment of staff members, TODAY has gathered.

As a result of this, some infuriated and frustrated Donewell Insurance agents have hinted to hit the streets to stage a massive demonstration to express their grievances about the situation.

The decision of the workers to embark on the demonstration stems from the fact that they have not been paid for several months now.

The workers could not understand how management expected them to work honestly and assiduously without pay.

According to the workers, Donewell Insurance owes them salaries for about three to four months now while others also contend that they have not been paid their salaries for the last two months.

Sleuth checks conducted by TODAY revealed that this has created a lot of inconveniences for the staff most of whom are family men and women.

Some of the staff who spoke to this reporter on very strict conditions of anonymity bemoaned the attitudes of management on the matter indicating that they appeared to be unconcerned.

“I am in charge of one of the agencies in Accra. My brother, we make the money for them, but they end up paying themselves and ignoring us. For instance, I have not been paid since the month of June,” one of the agency staff disclosed to TODAY.

“When you ask them, they tell you that some of the staff have made away with huge sums of monies and are nowhere to be found making retrieval of the monies very difficult, so we need to exercise restraint since the company is currently facing some financial crisis as a result of this,” another staff stated.

“You see, they will tell you there is no money but where do they get the monies to pay themselves? I need money to take care of my family of five and here I am without any penny on me for the upkeep of the family,” lamented another staff.

Another staff could not hide his disappointment about the problem and told the paper that “they are not being fair to us at all because, we go out to sell the insurance products, so how do they expect us to live? Whenever you go to management and complain you are told it will be rectified soon, but we don’t know how soon. In fact, it is very disgusting to see this happen.”

When reached on phone for their side of the story, a female staff at the Public Affairs and Media Relations Department of Donewell Insurance who declined to give her name and designation told TODAY that “We cannot comment on this story on telephone unless you come to our headquarters at Osu, Accra, for the right information from the appropriate authority.”
