Residents bemoan frequent power outages

Residents of Russia-Sukura, in the Ablekuma Central Constituency within the Greater Accra Region are worried over what they describe as persistent power outages in the area.

This situation has irked the residents so much that some of them are threatening legal action against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)

According to the enraged residents, the ECG has failed to notify them on some of these cases of power interruptions.

This, they pointed out, has created a lot of inconveniences for them since they need power supply to boost their business operations and for domestic purposes.

The concerned residents made this known when Constituency TODAY paid a visit to the area earlier this week.

The residents lamented that the situation was nothing to write home about and appealed to the authorities in charge to help address the setback.

Some of the residents who spoke to Constituency TODAY could not hide their displeasure anymore and were ready to pour their hearts out on the situation.

“I operate a Fish Cold Store and I must say that I have not been happy at all with this matter because, I need electricity to carry out my business,” said Maame Yaa Amponsah, a resident.

She continued that “what do I stand to gain if these interruptions continue unabated? I sometimes throw away stocks due to these power failures because I cannot sell fish that are spoilt.”

Another resident who gave his name as Mr Paul Fianko said he runs an Ice-Kenkey business in his house but as a result of the power failures his business seems to be folding up.

“Sometimes my products end up fermenting; I spend so much in paying bills and at the end of the day the services for which I am paying for are not available.

The residents could not fathom why this was happening and advised ECG to render their services promptly in the same way that they expect prompt payment of bills.
