Ohene Ntow reacts

Nana Ohene Ntow, the General Secretary of the main opposition NPP party, has debunked the allegation to the effect that he removed everything in a bungalow near the Ghana Internal School (GIS) which was given to him during the erstwhile Kufuor administration.

He was emphatic that he did not ransack any bungalow and indicated that what he took away from the house were his properties and not that of the state.

He disclosed … “I have not ransacked anything from the bungalow; I just took my kitchen nets and other things which belonged to me.”

According to him, he was given a virtually empty bungalow which he had to furnish with his own resources, stressing that… “Whatever I used in the bungalow belonged to me.” He said there were even cases where he had to fix some of the facilities in the bungalow.

Nana Ohene Ntow was reacting on Citi Fm to a publication in yesterday’s edition of the Informer newspaper which alleged that he (Ohene Ntow) had looted everything in a government bungalow that was given to him under the NPP administration.

Continuing, the NPP General Secretary revealed, for instance, that the bungalow only had PBC tiles which he had to replace them with ceramic tiles.

“These ceramic tiles are there for all to see, adding that the newspaper (that is, the Informer) could have done the right thing by finding out his side of the allegation” said Ohene Ntow.

He explained that he is not in charge of the security of the facility and could not have known what might have happened there.

“I am not in charge of the security of the bungalow and would therefore not know who might have taken what,” said Ohene Ntow.

Sharing his impressions on yesterday’s Akwatia Parliamentary election, the NPP General Secretary described it as generally peaceful and applauded the security personnel for the way they conducted themselves during the election.

“Generally, yesterday’s election at Akwatia went well and it was peaceful,” he noted.

He was, however, quick to point out that if the security agencies had acted in a much more professional manner as it happened yesterday the earlier incidents of violence between supporters of the NDC and NPP at Akwatia would not have taken place.

In the opinion of the NPP General Secretary, if the ruling NDC party has problems with the election it is important that such issues are raised for the courts to deal with them.

“…If the NDC is not satisfied with the Akwatia results what the party should do is to petition the office of the Electoral Commission (EC) for the matter to be settled in a court of law,” he submitted.

Nana Ohene Ntow could not understand why blood could be split just in the name of a constituency. He said even though the signals were clear that the NDC was going to lose the election, yet the party allowed its supports to engage in acts of violence.

“It really saddens me why blood should be split in the name of just one seat, and cannot comprehend why the NDC still allowed their supporters to engage in violence when they knew very well that there was no chance that they would win the Akwatia seat,” lamented the NPP General Secretary.

He described his party’s victory as the expression of the will of the constituents of Akwatia who prefer to have an NPP candidate to an NDC candidate.

On the party’s upcoming delegates’ conference at Trade Fair in Accra this Saturday, Nana Ohene Ntow disclosed everything has gone into the preparation to ensure that the event becomes a successful one.

‘‘It is an extraordinary conference which will look at constitutional amendments of the NPP party.’’
