Alan K. Kyeremanteng
From James Appiakorang Jnr., Kumasi
With barely a week to the National Delegates Conference of the opposition New Patriotic Party, the two main camps within the party: the Nana and Alan Camp, have started employing tactics to win the support of the delegates, TODAY has gathered
One of such tactics though not new to Ghanaians and the party, is the use of text messages to relay false information about opponents to the delegates.
TODAY has been privy to some of these messages whose recipients allege that it came from Nana Addo’s camp to some delegates in the Ashanti Region.
The messages, some of which came from mobile phones with contact numbers 0277233839 and 0540813345, sought to play the recipients against the main contender of Nana Addo, Alan K. Kyeremanteng.
The messages read “Alan wants to split our party, but we are not going to allow him to do so,-the activist”, and “Yaw Amankwa, Asare Bediako and Adu Asabre have collected GH100, 000 (1 billion old Ghana cedis) from J.A. Kufuor to work against NPP amendments, they are crooks, vote for amendments”.
All TODAY heard when the paper tried to call the numbers to ascertain the truth was the usual voice of the woman saying ‘the number you are calling cannot be reached …’
Such messages, according to our source, who is a delegate, does not enhance the unity they are seeking in their beloved party.
“If we are having peace talks to bring us all together in order for our dear party to win power come 2012 and one group goes out to play dirty on another, how can we achieve the unity we are looking for”? He questioned.
“They go to the media and talk as if they want unity in the party but under the cover of darkness do several negative things to cause more instability in the party”, he continued.
He noted that he was not the only delegate who had received such damning messages about Alan, and his colleagues, like himself are very angry about such a development.
